I am a full time professional tutor with 17 years of experience working in education and 9 years of experience in private tutoring. I am a current examiner in biology and was a university lecturer in pharmacy for 8 years (University of Nottingham). I teach chemistry at IGCSE and A-level part-time at a leading independent online school and have experience of teaching all three sciences within secondary schools in the state sector.I am extremely familiar with the requirements of all the major examination boards (AQA, OCR, Edexcel, CIE and IB) at GCSE, IGCSE and A-level.
In my previous position as a tenured university lecturer at University of Nottingham, I taught at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. During this time I taught a range of subjects on the undergraduate pharmacy degree program and supervised 8 PhD students to successful completion of their thesis. Having interviewed numerous UCAS candidates for degree places, I can also offer advice to hone your personal statement.
I have worked with children with special educational needs such as Asperger Syndrome, autism, ADHD, partial hearing and dyslexia. Having lived and worked abroad for a number of years, I also have experience of working with students for whom English is an additional language.

I am a full-time tutor and past Vice-President of The Tutors Association (2015-2016), the professional body for the tuition industry. I was elected into this position by members of the tutoring profession and because I tutor full-time I will not be fitting this around other work.I hold a PhD in biochemistry from Imperial College London and have a strong academic track record covering both chemistry and biology having previously led cutting-edge research teams in academia and for multinational companies such as Unilever, GlaxoSmithKline, Zeneca, Novartis and other major pharmaceutical and biotech companies. I am fascinated by science and I believe my genuine enthusiasm combined with my working knowledge, based on years as an active researcher is evident in my teaching. I enjoy working with students of varying ages and abilities and take pride in encouraging students to reach their full potential. I am patient and understanding in my approach, which I will adapt to meet the strengths and needs of individual learners.
Prior to commencing tuition we will agree tuition goals and I will work with these to develop a personalised scheme of learning. During tuition I will monitor student progress and keep records of this so that learning and attainment can be tracked and approaches can be continually adapted to meet the developing needs of the individual. However, most importantly of all, I believe learning should be fun. I am friendly and approachable and I work hard to ensure students enjoy having tuition, which ultimately will maximise the progress they make.
