Experience
I have 25 years of experience teaching chemistry and science at an outstanding school, where I was Head of Chemistry for 10 years. I am now a full-time online tutor, teaching chemistry at A-level, and chemistry, physics and biology at GCSE. I can also offer assistance in the chemical and physical aspects of A-level biology. I have been tutoring online for three years and have had a thoroughly positive experience over that time.More
I have always been fascinated by science and have long enjoyed passing on my interest to numerous students, many of whom have been inspired to become scientists or medics themselves. I believe that one to one tuition is a hugely effective way to improve a student's performance. When reviewing questions and answers with students I explain my own thought processes as to how to answer the exam. I am a very approachable person and have great empathy for students and strive to make a first-class environment for learning and success. My PhD was in mitochondrial bioenergetics, which was at the interface between chemistry, physics and biology. After my PhD I was a professional scientist at Leicester University doing research on the enzyme DNA Gyrase, which supercoils DNA. I then went on to teach chemistry and science at an outstanding secondary school.
Astronomy is my hobby, together with observing newts and frogs in my pond. I love to play the saxophone. I have no other commitments beyond being a tutor, so can devote all of my energy to it.

Thank you very much"
Another recent student wrote: " thank you for all the help that you have given me in these two difficult years. You have helped me a lot, in chemistry, and making me laugh and engaged in your lessons. Thank you ever so much."
Another recent student wrote: "Hi Simon, I got a 9 and an average of 91% in Chemistry. Thank you so much for all of your help."
A recent parent wrote: "Just to let you know that Georgina got a 9 in all three sciences at GCSE. Thank you for your help with her lessons."
I attained grades of chemistry (A), physics (A) and biology (A) at A level at Southwell Minster Grammar School in 1980.
