Summary

Through my own education a passion of teaching chemistry effectively has always been my drive. I have a fantastic track record in students achieving grades higher than a B, from predicted D-E grades. I am efficient, approachable and patient - attributes which make me a successful tutor.

Qualifications

  • PGCE (Newcastle University)
  • PhD (University of Sheffield)
  • AFHEA (University of Sheffield)
  • MChem (Newcastle University)

Experience

Over the past 10 years I have honed my skills of teaching. Ever since my own GCSE's I have yearned to teach, during which I would make study guides for fellow classmates as I wanted everyone to excel. During 6th form, where I was recognised as 'top pupil' for both Biology and Chemistry in the role of honour, I began tutoring relatives and friends GCSE Chemistry. After which, during my degree, I ventured into teaching online where I upheld a 5 star rating on Evotuition until it's closure. This allowed me to spread my passion of Chemistry, which typically rose student's marks from a D/E grade to a A/A* grade. I am very proud of my students, some of which have went onto pharmacy, radiography and engineering degrees. After being awarded a 1st class masters (2nd highest student in my physical Chemistry cohort), I began my PhD at the University of Sheffield studying catalysis. During my research I attended teaching seminars in order to understand the theory behind 'what is a good lesson', and due to my involvement in undergraduate teaching I was awarded an associate fellow of higher education award (AFHEA). Most recently I have finished my PGCE with chemistry specalism to further my research and practise in teaching. I pride myself on being patient and having the ability of understanding a student's needs based on how they perform during lessons.

More

From my research within pedagogy, I am very familiar with a wide range of teaching techniques, as no two students are the same.
I have developed resources which stimulate students at the root of their attention, which after lessons a student receives a copy.
I am efficient with feedback (which is a key process of learning at university) and try and develop a students understanding as opposed to simply giving them the answer. I am able to make revision guides based on where a student is within the academic year and I enjoy going through past papers with students in order to develop 'exam technique'.
