I have 19 years of experience teaching at a university for English literature and creative writing. I supervise dissertations and work one-to-one with undergraduates in their final year as they specialise in an area of literature or creative writing. I've also taught critical studies, cultural studies and contextual writing as well as creative writing (including MA level) at a university, so have worked across disciplines including collaborative practice as a writer and as a tutor working with visual artists. I have also taught on access to higher education courses in literature and creative writing.I tutor for the Workers Educational Association, focusing on creative writing and women's literature. I have also tutored features of IELTS and essay composition for a number of native speakers and overseas students or those for whom English is a second language. While previously living in the USA I taught classes in women's literature and short fiction.
I have tutored non-native speakers as well as published writers seeking editorial input and feedback on their work. Although I mostly work with undergraduate students, I have helped individuals from all backgrounds improve their writing, their analysis of literature, and their expressive skills. I am able to line edit as well as offer critical feedback to improve a piece of writing.
