Experience
Having taught for 8 years, I have just left the classroom to pursue other interests but would still like to be able to create meaningful change for students who need help. Being freelance means I have the time to tutor at different times that work for you.I am a qualified teacher and was Head of English for 2 years. I have taught English in the UK to secondary students, tutored primary pupils and taught English as a Foreign Language in China. I have taught KS3 and GCSE English Language and Literature to students with high and low targets, the majority of whom have not only reached their target but exceeded it.
As leader of KS3 English, I have also taught a wide range of abilities of year 7-9 students preparing them for their GCSEs and bringing them up to a level where they feel happier and more successful in English lessons. I have marked for AQA English Literature and Language GCSE which uniquely places me to help with exam preparation and provide pupils with specific techniques to succeed in these examinations.
I have also spent considerable time working with year 6 students helping them with their SATs and their transition into year 7. Together with a variety of primary schools, I have developed ways in which to help students reach and supersede their targets.

I understand that when a pupil doesn't have the underlying confidence in a subject, especially English, it can affect all of their other subjects too. Through a student-led planning approach, I will work with the pupil to teach, revise or review what they need so that they can not only fix these areas, but also feel happier when in class at school and feel proud of their progress. Through treating pupils as individuals, understanding their needs and planning accordingly, the students I work with achieve their goals and gain confidence in the subject. Revision skills are also key for some students and I will teach them the different ways to do this, that are supported by research, that will help them to excel in their exams.Availability (UK time)
